Introduction

Introduction

Data Journey offers a range of data science courses that allow users to learn by enrolling in their desired courses. With a robust user base, the website attracts around 5,000 visitors each month.

I have contributed to four areas and

divided tasks into four separate sections.

Task 1: Landing Page Improvement

Task 1: Landing Page Improvement

Problem

  • The conversion rate and user engagement were low due to a generic hero section.

  • Users struggled to identify the available courses, as the website lacked a dedicated course features section.

  • Although the platform frequently hosted webinars, the navigation was disorganized, leading users directly to the webinar registration page without clear guidance.

The Process

Stakeholder Interview

The conversion rate has been impacted by the hero section and the incorrect landing page hierarchy. We discussed strategies to enhance both the hero section and the overall structure of the landing page. Through gathering diverse perspectives, we prioritized requirements to effectively improve this section.

Usability Testing

I conducted usability testing with 10 targeted users and identified several major issues for the hero section and landing page. By using a heat map, I analyzed which objects and sections captured users' attention most effectively. Additionally, I recorded remote user behavior to understand their navigation patterns when they first open the website.

Wireframe

After discussing with stakeholders and gathering input through usability testing, I prepared a draft that prioritizes key elements to enhance conversion rates and user engagement.

Design Test

Finding ways to get users back on the platform and re-engage them was essential.

Identifying user-friendly features and determining how to implement new technology effectively presented significant difficulties.

Final Design

Result

  • By redesigning the hero section with tailored, engaging visuals, we significantly boosted user engagement and conversion rates.

  • We introduced a dedicated course features section, making it easier for users to discover and explore available courses, leading to increased course enrollments.

  • Additionally, we streamlined navigation for webinars, providing clear pathways for users to access valuable content and register for events.

Task 2: Need to Add Extra Section

Task 2: Need to Add Extra Section

Problem:

  • Career Path Section: New users often faced challenges when trying to learn about a data science career path and determining which courses were suitable for them. This type of query frequently arose during that time.

  • Community Section: There was no community section on the platform. Nowadays, users want to discuss problems and solutions in the same place, as well as build their networks.

The Design Process

Stakeholder Interview

  • Previously, I discovered some additional insights and suggested two important sections to the stakeholders for implementation on the platform. These sections are particularly beneficial for individuals looking to build their careers in data science.

User Interview

  • I spoke with several targeted users to gather their input on features they would like to see added to the career guide page.

  • They suggested including a webinars section, important video content, and a blog section.

Wireframe

  • Based on the research and insights gathered, I created a wireframe.

Design Test

  • I spoke with several targeted users to gather their input on features they would like to see added to the career guide page.

  • They suggested including a webinars section, important video content, and a blog section.

Final Design

Result

  • We developed a comprehensive Career Path section that guides new users through the data science career journey, helping them identify suitable courses and resources tailored to their goals.

  • This clarity has empowered users to make informed decisions about their education, resulting in increased course enrollments and satisfaction.

  • This clarity has empowered users to make informed decisions about their education, resulting in increased course enrollments and satisfaction.

  • In addition, we established a Community section, fostering a collaborative environment where users can discuss challenges, share solutions, and network with peers.

Task 3: User Dashboard

Task 3: User Dashboard

Problem:

  • The user dashboard had a cluttered layout and inconsistent flow. Additionally, there was no dedicated section for assignment submissions, question submissions, or assignment submissions within the course video list.

The Design Process

Usability Issues

  • I identified several issues in the user dashboard, including a lack of proper user flow, missing sections for interactions and engagements, and the absence of an assignment status check.

Added Additional Required Featured

  • Finding ways to get users back on the platform and re-engage them was essential.

Result

  • We enhanced the user dashboard by adding important features, including dedicated sections for assignment submissions and question submissions. These additions improved the layout and flow, making it easier for users to navigate their coursework.

  • As a result, user satisfaction and engagement increased, allowing learners to manage their educational journey more effectively.

Task 4: Redesign The Entire Admin Dashboard

Task 4: Redesign The Entire Admin Dashboard

Problem

  • The admin dashboard did not adhere to the branding colors, and there were usability issues on the main screen. Course cards were inconsistent, and there was no option to check conversion rates within the admin dashboard. Additionally, the sidebar menu offered limited functionality.

The Design Process

Stakeholder Interview

  • I conducted an interview with stakeholders to discuss improvements for the entire dashboard. We addressed usability issues, prioritized features, and considered enhancements, including adding new options to the sidebar menu.

  • After aligning our findings with stakeholder needs, we identified some crucial elements and decided to proceed with the next steps in the process.

Competitive Analysis of Admin Dashboards

  • In my analysis of existing admin dashboards for online course platforms, I observed that successful designs prioritize a clean and intuitive layout, as seen in platforms like Teachable and Kajabi. These dashboards feature responsive designs that ensure accessibility across devices, along with user-friendly navigation that simplifies administrative tasks.

  • Additionally, effective dashboards utilize dynamic data visualization, enabling administrators to track enrollment trends and performance metrics at a glance.

  • Task management features play a crucial role, with platforms like LearnDash offering streamlined course creation processes and clear notifications for key actions.

Wireframe

  • I finalized the wireframe with stakeholders and received positive feedback.

  • Essential features for the admin dashboard were included, such as user management, analytics, course management, and reports cards (covering conversion rates, revenue generated, total enrollments, and course completion rates)

Test

  • During the user testing phase, I collaborated closely with a group of 3 to 4 admin users to evaluate the design and functionality of the platform. Based on their valuable feedback, several design elements were refined to better meet user needs and improve overall usability.

  • The admins found the redesigned features intuitive, and the overall flow of the interface was well-received

Some Final Designs

Result

  • I created and improved the entire admin dashboard, incorporating a cohesive design that adheres to our branding colors. Usability issues on the main screen were resolved, enhancing the overall user experience. Course cards were standardized for consistency, and we added the ability to check conversion rates directly within the dashboard.

  • The sidebar menu was also revamped to include more useful features, providing administrators with enhanced functionality and easier navigation. These comprehensive improvements have significantly increased efficiency and effectiveness for admin team.

What I Learned

  • Through this project, I gained valuable insights into increasing user engagement by applying key UX principles.

  • This experience also allowed me to significantly enhance my dashboard design skills, focusing on usability, clarity, and visual appeal to create more effective and user-friendly interfaces.
